ABOUT DAN

DAN SIMPSON

Member Ethics Committee Law Society of NSW

After growing up in country New South Wales , Dan attended Sydney University Law School from which he graduated in 1976.

He has practised law in the St George area ever since and in Kogarah since 1983.

Dan has a history of involvement in local community affairs and has served as an Alderman on Hurstville City Council. He has served on the committees and as Chairman of numerous local organisations.

He has also served a term as President of the St George and Sutherland Law Society.

Dan’s fields of practice include

  • Conveyancing;
  • Wills and Probate;
  • Small Business Advice
  • Leasing; and
  • Local Court advocacy.

Dan is also a Notary Public for the State of New South Wales .

Dan lives at Oatley with his family and his interests include golf, music, reading and rugby league.

ABOUT MICHAEL

MICHAEL SOMMERVILLE

Solicitor – Consultant

Michael is the Senior Court Lawyer in the firm.

His main areas of practice are Criminal and Traffic Law, Commercial Litigation and Deceased Estate Disputes.

He has practised as an advocate in litigation since January 1986 in the Local, District and Supreme Courts of NSW, as well as the Family Court and Federal Circuit Court of Australia.

Michael was also a former president of the St George Law Society.

Michael is currently a Legal Lecturer at the Sutherland Traffic Offenders Program.

ABOUT KYLE

KYLE SUTHERLAND

Upon completing a Diploma in Law (LPAB), Kyle was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2011, and subsequently to the High Court of Australia.

Kyle then practised as a solicitor, before joining the team at Redmond Hale Simpson in 2015, where he currently practices law as a Senior Associate.

On 5th  June 2020, Kyle was awarded with the postgraduate degree of Master of Laws from Sydney University achieving either a High Distinction or Distinction in each subject.

Kyle is a highly qualified Solicitor, bringing with him strong skills in negotiation with a particular focus on client outcomes. His current areas of expertise include:

  • Family Law;
  • Commercial Litigation; and
  • Civil Litigation.

Since 2017, Kyle continues to serve on the Committee of the St. George – Sutherland Regional Law Society and is currently a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia.

Kyle lives in Sydney with his wife and two young children.

ABOUT MARC

MARC O'BRIEN

Marc was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2017, after receiving a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of New England. 

Marc was subsequently admitted to the High Court of Australia and the High Court of New Zealand the same year, and began practice in the Sydney CBD before joining Redmond Hale Simpson in 2018.

Prior to his becoming a solicitor, Marc worked in the legal services industry, focussing mainly on property, and has been able to utilise the skills obtained in practice.

Marc is a strong negotiator and has appeared in matters before the Supreme Court of NSW, the District Court of New South Wales, the Local Court of New South Wales as well as a number of Tribunals. His main areas of practice are as follows:

  • Property and Conveyancing;
  • Local Court litigation including traffic matters;
  • Wills and Estates; and
  • Commercial and Civil litigation.

He is currently pursuing his admission to a post graduate degree in Master of Laws (LLM).
